Project Overview
As a group, one of our goals is to translate recent genetic findings of neuropsychiatric disorders into neurobiological mechanisms and develop avenues for therapeutics. We believe that our research work so far has made a major advance in understanding cellular physiology and circuitry mechanisms that underlie some psychiatric disorders, in particular, OCD, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), schizophrenia, and ADHD with the state-of-the-art combinations of behavior, circuits, physiology, and genetics.
By identifying vulnerable circuits and profiling the transcriptome of individual neurons using RNAseq, we hope to identify cell type-specific targets for circuit manipulations and potential therapeutics. These targets are being verified and tested in a variety of platforms and additionally, new genome-editing technologies are facilitating the development of cutting-edge gene therapy approaches.
